Poland plans to raise excise tax on alcohol
Poland's lower house of parliament on Friday adopted a draft law that increases the planned excise tax hikes on alcoholic beverages for the years 2026–2027, including a 15-percent rise next year and a 10-percent growth in 2027.
The amended bill to the law on excise tax passed with 245 votes in favour, 198 against, and one abstention.
The currently binding law envisages an annual increase of 5 percent in the excise tax on ethyl alcohol, beer, wine, fermented beverages and intermediate products for the years 2026 and 2027.
The finance minister had announced earlier that the amended excise tax hike was expected to bring around PLN 1.96 billion (EUR 456 million) in revenue to the state budget.
The draft law will now be submitted to the Senate for further consideration. (PAP)
