Poland's energy sector cooperation causes disputes in talks with miners, says energy min.

During talks with union representatives, the issue of cooperation between mining companies and their unions, and energy companies caused the greatest controversy, energy minister Milosz Motyka told journalists on Friday. He added that this topic will likely be the focus of future meetings with miners.

"We discussed how cooperation between energy companies, the unions, and mining companies should look, and this raised the most controversy. I think the upcoming meetings ahead of us will focus on this cooperation (...)," Motyka said.

"We also want to involve – at the request of the social side - the grid operator directly responsible for the country’s security," he added.

Other topics in talks with miners included investments in gas blocks, nuclear energy, and calls for support for the steel industry.

Motyka stressed that the government has fulfilled its commitment related to the implementation of the social agreement on phasing out hard coal mining, including the adoption of the so-called mining law along with protections for listed coking coal group JSW's employees.

On November 4, a demonstration is planned in Katowice by representatives of all organisations affiliated with the interunion protest and strike committee of the Silesian-Dabrowa Region.
