Poland's PM announces repolonisation of Polish public procurement, starting with offshore

Over the next 10 years, Poland will spend trillions on Polish energy; these are Polish funds and there is no reason that wherever possible, they should not remain in Poland, Prime Minister Donald Tusk told the "Energy from Poland - Local First" forum, announcing a program aimed at repolonisation of Polish public procurement.

On Monday, during the forum, a declaration of cooperation was signed to increase the Polish economy's participation in the second phase of offshore projects in the Baltic Sea.

It was signed by, among others, Poland's state assets minister Wojciech Balczun, Poland's state-owned Industrial Development Agency (ARP) and representatives of companies with State Treasury shareholding, including listed power utility PGE.

"Over the next 10 years, we will be spending trillions [of zlotys - MI ed.] on the Polish energy sector, and this is Polish money, from Polish companies, from the budget (...), I see every reason for this money to stay in Poland wherever possible," Prime Minister Tusk told the opening of the forum, mentioning investments in offshore wind turbines and power plants.

"In 2024, public procurement amounted to PLN 580 billion. These are Polish citizens' money spent on company activities. We must do everything to ensure that as much of this money as possible goes to Polish companies," he added.

Tusk stressed that those deciding on spending must focus on this goal, and this is the purpose of Monday's agreement on local content in offshore wind energy.

"Under state patronage, with the involvement of institutions, investment funds are to be redirected from international corporations, often from outside the EU, to Polish contractors," he explained.

"Polish is better because it is safer from our point of view," the Prime Minister emphasised.
