Cyfrowy Polsat SACyfrowy Polsat owner Solorz welcomes Poland's plan to add Polsat TV to strategic firms
Polish billionaire Zygmunt Solorz, listed TMT group Cyfrowy Polsat main shareholder and Polsat Plus group founder, "welcomes and understands" the government plan to add his TV station Polsat to the list of strategic companies, he says in statement sent to press.
"I understand and welcome the announcement of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland about the will to include Telewizja Polsat in the list of strategic and protected entities. To date, the telecommunications companies of the Polsat Plus group - Polkomtel and TK Telekom - have been operating successfully within the framework of the rules indicated in the regulation and the act of July 24, 2015, on the control of certain investments," Zygmunt Solorz wrote.
"Despite the fact that Telewizja Polsat was not and is not for sale, the Prime Minister's announcement coincides with unprecedented pressure on the company's reputation, which in my opinion may be aimed at forcing a change in the group's management and, in the medium term, selling off its assets," he added.
Solorz stressed that Polsat Plus, as a group operating in regulated industries, is open to full cooperation for the stabilisation of the media, telecommunications and energy markets in Poland.
On December 11, Poland's Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced at a briefing that TVN and Polsat would be included in the list of strategic companies. According to him, this has to do with the recent elections in Romania and Russian interference.
"This means that without the consent of the Polish government it will not be possible to take over these companies," Tusk said.
