Polenergia SAOPINION: Offshore wind auction results positive
As a result of the offshore auction, support was granted to projects by Poland's largest energy concern Orlen and listed power utilities: PGE, and Polenergia/Equinor, with a total capacity of 3.435 GW and analysts have rated the auction results positively.
"The auction results are positive, with prices close to the maximum. Companies have secured part of their revenue and can proceed with further investments and commitments," Michal Sztabler of Noble Securities told PAP Biznes.
The winning projects are Baltic East (900 MW, Orlen Neptun), Baltica 9 (975 MW, PGE) and Baltic I (1,560 MW, Polenergia/Equinor). Offshore Wind Farm Baltica 1 (896 MW) did not receive support. Offered prices ranged from PLN 476.88 (EUR 113.2 mln) /MWh to PLN 492.32/MWh, close to the maximum allowed in each area.
Sztabler noted the surprise that the contract was awarded to PGE's Baltica 9 rather than Baltica 1.
On Thursday, PGE has signed a conditional agreement with RWE for the acquisition of FEW Baltyk II offshore wind project in the Polish part of the Baltic Sea.
FEW Baltyk II is a project with a capacity of approx. 350 MW, neighbouring the Baltica 9 project being developed by PGE. The project possesses a support in form of the contract for difference obtained within the so-called first offshore phase. The transaction is expected to be closed in the first quarter of 2026.
On December 17, Poland's market regulator URE auction offered 25-year contracts for up to 4 GW in Poland's second-phase offshore wind, with first electricity due within seven years.
