PGE energy and Dutch Ørsted ink deal for secondary steel manufacture and delivery for Baltica 2 OWF

Listed power utility PGE and Dutch Ørsted have signed a contract for the manufacture and delivery of the secondary steel for the Baltica 2 offshore wind farm, Ørsted said in a press release.

As stated, the suspended internal platforms will be supplied by Smulders. They will be manufactured in Zary (Lubuskie region), and their assembly and final retrofitting will be carried out in Swinoujscie (Pomeranian region).

"Offshore wind energy is an opportunity for industry development both in Poland and Europe. We are pleased that the secondary steel for the Baltica 2 project will be manufactured in Poland," said the deputy CEO and managing director of the Baltica 2 project at Ørsted Ulrik Lange, quoted in the press release.

"Poland is a new market for offshore, and the local content is already about 20 percent, which confirms the good dynamics of the participation of Polish companies," he added.

Smulders is a company owned by Eiffage Métal. It employs more than 2,000 people in branches in Poland, Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK. The company focuses on full engineering, production and system integration projects, mainly for the offshore wind energy market. In Poland, the company employs around 700 people, with production facilities located in the Lubuskie and Opolskie regions.

The Baltica 2 project entered the offshore construction phase this year. Work will soon begin to prepare the seabed for the laying of foundations and submarine cables. Construction of the onshore connection infrastructure in the municipality of Choczewo has already been underway since mid-2024.

The investors - PGE and Ørsted - have already made the final investment decision for the project and started the implementation processes. They have contracted the key components necessary to start the construction of Baltica 2 OWF and have signed all the installation contracts. The partners have all the necessary construction permits.

Baltica 2 will consist of 107 turbines with a total capacity of 1.5 GW.
