KGHM Polska Miedź SAPKO Leasing grants USD 120 mln lease loan for KGHM’s US copper mine investment
Poland's largest lender by assets PKO BP's leasing unit, PKO Leasing, has signed an agreement with listed copper producer KGHM to refinance the Robinson mine investment in Nevada, PKO BP announced in a press release sent to PAP Biznes. The value of the financing, provided in the form of a lease loan, exceeds USD 120 million and relates to investments in fixed assets.
PKO Leasing and KGHM INTERNATIONAL have signed a financing agreement under a lease loan agreement, and the contract concerns the refinancing of investments in fixed assets which the KGHM Group uses directly in Nevada, USA, where the mine is located.
The agreement was signed with the involvement of PKO BP.
This is another transaction by PKO Leasing in recent months. In 2025, the company provided PLN 13.75 billion (EUR 3.2 bln) in financing in the form of leases and lease loans, giving it a 11.5 percent market share.
Cross-border transactions of this kind, carried out outside the European market, are rare in the Polish leasing sector, as they require the financier to possess advanced know-how in areas such as structuring, international law and operational coordination across different jurisdictions, PKO BP pointed out in the press release.
The transaction with KGHM INTERNATIONAL was carried out under a lease loan arrangement. PKO Leasing is working on developing its lease loan offering and intends to promote this financing model - the company wants it to become one of the drivers of its growth by strengthening its traditional leasing offering.
