Poland and Baltic States apply to join AI Gigafactories programme, EC receives 76 requests
Poland and the Baltic States have submitted an application for the AI Gigafactories programme, with the European Commission receiving a total of 76 applications, the governmental Digital Poland Project Centre (CPPP) announced on its website.
"76 applications covering 60 locations in 16 Member States – this is how many applications were received as part of the European Commission's call for preliminary expressions of interest in building AI Gigafactories, which ended on June 20. Poland has also submitted an application in partnership with the Baltic States," CPPP stated.
The Digital Poland Project Centre reported that interest significantly exceeded initial expectations, given that there are plans to build 4-5 such Gigafactories across the EU.
"Arrangements are currently underway regarding the origin and size of the budget for the call for proposals for the construction of such factories, planned for the end of the year. Part of the funds will come from the Digital Europe programme," the statement said.
