R.POWER S.A.R.Power PV launches its first hybrid PV + BESS installation in Poland
Polish photovoltaic group R.Power has launched the first operational battery energy storage system in Poland, the company announced in a press release.
It was reported that the facility located in Nehrybka near Przemysl is directly integrated with a photovoltaic farm, making it R.Power's first hybrid PV + BESS installation.
It has been indicated that the installation will provide services to the Polish power system. In addition to wholesale arbitrage on the day-ahead and intraday markets, it will be able to provide ancillary services such as frequency control (FCR), frequency restoration (aFRR) and capacity reserve.
The system will also support the stability of the local power grid by offering voltage regulation, reactive power compensation and other services to distribution system operators.
"This is a very important project for R.Power – our first operational battery system in Poland and, at the same time, a pilot project that confirms our expertise in energy storage," said the CEO and founder of R.Power Przemek Pieta, quoted in the press release.
"We are now moving on to a series of much larger projects that will significantly increase grid flexibility and support the energy transition in Poland and Europe," he added.
In Poland, R.Power is currently preparing to implement a portfolio of medium-term BESS projects, including large installations in locations such as Herby (10 MWh), Jedwabno (300 MWh), Tursko Wielkie (1,000 MWh) and Gdansk (1,000 MWh).
Outside Poland, the company is also developing the Scornicesti project in Romania (254 MWh). In total, these investments comprise several hundred megawatts and gigawatt hours of new storage capacity.
