Santander Bank Polska SASantander BP lender will refund customers for money stolen from their accounts
Listed lender Santander Bank Polska informed PAP on Sunday that monitoring had detected criminal transactions using customers' payment cards. It assured that the stolen money would be returned. Reports of unauthorized withdrawals are being monitored throughout the country by the National Police Headquarters.
The Santander bank press office explained that criminal transactions using customer payment cards were carried out at ATMs belonging to a partner network.
"Immediately after the incident was detected, all cards that were or could potentially have been affected by criminal activity were secured. The bank, in cooperation with the device operator, is conducting an in-depth analysis of the source of the incident – we suspect that scanning overlays were installed on ATMs in the partner network. The device operator's technical teams are checking the selected ATMs," the bank said.
Bank representatives said they are in contact with law enforcement authorities and a report of the crime is being prepared.
Santander assured that customers' funds are safe.
"After detecting the fraudulent transactions, the bank immediately implemented solutions to prevent the criminals from continuing their activities. The funds stolen in this way will be returned to customers on Monday," the bank said.
Customers were urged to pay close attention to the appearance of ATMs and check whether they arouse suspicion of possible tampering by third parties.
"Customers who notice such cases are asked to contact our hotline at 1 9999," the bank added.
