Strabag inks PLN 1.41 bln deal with Poland's railway infrastructure operator PKP PLK

Polish unit of Austrian construction concern Strabag has signed a contract with Poland's railway infrastructure operator PKP PLK for the design and execution of construction works in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian region, northern Poland, Strabag announced in a press release. The value of the signed contract is nearly PLN 1.141 billion (EUR 331.1 mln) gross.

"The value of the signed contract is PLN 1,140.58 million gross, and the completion date is 51 months from the date of signing, scheduled for December 2029," Strabag announced in the press release.

"The Maksymilianowo station is one of the most important junction stations in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian region, also due to the intersection of two railway lines that are important for transporting cargo from the south to the north of the country: No. 201 (Nowa Wies Wielka – Gdynia Port) and No. 131 (Chorzow Batory – Tczew) ," it added.

As part of the project, Strabag will rebuild tracks with a total length of approximately 38 kilometres. At the Maksymilianowo station, three platforms will be modernised, which, thanks to a new underpass with lifts, will provide better access to the railway for passengers travelling towards Bydgoszcz and the Tri-City. A new track layout for railway lines 201 and 131 will also be created.

The contract includes the construction of four railway bridges, one road bridge and viaduct, as well as a collision-free crossing of lines.

Line 201 will be adapted to 160 km/h for passenger trains and 120 km/h for freight trains, while line 131 will be adapted to 200 km/h for passenger trains and 120 km/h for freight trains.

Strabag also indicated that the project is applying for co-financing from the European Funds FEnIKS programme for Infrastructure, Climate and Environment for 2021-2027.

Currently, Strabag group's order portfolio exceeds PLN 9.5 billion (EUR 2.2 bln).
