Orlen SASynthos Green Energy inks MoU with Samsung C&T for cooperation on SMRs deployment
Synthos Green Energy (SGE) and Samsung C&T have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate on the deployment of SMRs, utilising GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy’s BWRX-300 technology in the CEE region, SGE announced in a press release. The aim of the partnership is to outline a framework for future cooperation focused on the potential development of SMR projects in the CEE region.
"As part of this collaboration, the parties will share relevant information such as feasibility studies, site data, environmental assessments, and evaluation reports, while leveraging Samsung C&T's extensive know-how in delivering energy infrastructure projects (...)," SGE said in the press release on its website.
Internationally, the BWRX-300 is gaining recognition as a leading SMR solution, Synthos pointed out. Two major North American utilities have selected the technology for their projects, with the first plant scheduled for completion in Ontario, Canada, in 2029.
Synthos Green Energy (SGE) is a European SMR development platform founded in 2018 by Polish entrepreneur Michal Solowow.
The company is a co-investor in the standard design for the world's most commercially advanced SMR technology: the BWRX-300, designed by GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy. Currently, SGE is establishing partnerships and projects in more than a half-dozen European countries.
SGE's flagship project is carried out in Poland, where, jointly with the country's largest energy concern Orlen, the company has begun development at three separate sites and are on schedule to complete the first unit by 2032.
