Poland's CPI may be elevated by even 2 ppts in 2027 due to ETS2 system, says c. bank governor
An additional uncertainty discussed by Poland's Monetary Policy Council was the EU's climate policy and the introduction of ETS2, which may be included into costs and raise inflation in Poland by up to 2 percentage points in 2027, Poland's central bank NBP governor Adam Glapinski told Thursday's press conference following the decision-making meeting held by the Monetary Policy Council on July 1-2.
"An additional unknown factor, which we talked about quite a lot yesterday, is ETS2, the European Union's climate policy, again some big burdens being imposed, particularly in Poland, this will go into costs," Glapinski said.
"Extending this fight against carbon dioxide to other sectors, this in Poland may even increase inflation in 2027 by 2 percentage points, or something around that," he assessed.
