Poland's presidential candidate Karol Nawrocki urges MPC to lower interest rates
In the recording posted on X, Polish presidential candidate Karol Nawrocki, currently the second in the polls before the first round, called on Poland's Monetary Policy Council to lower the interest rates.
"Polish people must finally get lower loan instalments. That is why I urge MPC to lower interest rates," said Nawrocki, officially a citizen candidate, supported by the Law and Justice (PiS) party.
Earlier, Rafal Trzaskowski, a presidential candidate from the Civic Coalition (KO), leading before the first round of the polls, also called on the MPC to cut interest rates several times.
Last week, Poland's central bank NBP governor Adam Glapinski reiterated that there are currently no grounds for changing interest rates, due to the fact that inflation, including core inflation, has been elevated and will not coincide with the target in the coming months.
The market consensus indicates that interest rate cuts will begin in the third quarter of 2025, probably in July.
