Empik reports sales increases in Q4 2024; secures PLN 350 mln in financing agreements
Polish bookstore chain and marketplace retailer Empik closed the fourth quarter of 2024 with growth in all sales channels. It has concluded new financing agreements with a consortium of banks for a total of PLN 350 million (EUR 83.16 mln), the group said in a press release.
According to the company, in the fourth quarter of 2024, the number of orders on Empik. com increased by almost 20 percent, and in December alone by almost 30 percent compared to 2023.
The platform ended 2024 in fourth place in Polish e-commerce (according to Gemius/Mediapanel December survey), reaching nearly 11 million real users in the last month of 2024 (up by more than 15 percent year on year).
The Empik app had more than 40 percent more users month on month in December.
As reported, Empik Marketplace accounts for almost 50 percent of the group's total online sales. Empik Marketplace sales in December increased by 80 percent year on year.
Empik's stationary chain expanded by seven new shops in the fourth quarter, including the flagship Empik Marszalkowska in the former Cepelia pavilion in Warsaw.
Empik Group announced that it has entered into new financing agreements for a total of PLN 350 million (EUR 83.16 mln). The financing sum includes a long-term loan and a revolving credit facility of PLN 230 million (EUR 54.65 mln) and PLN 120 million (EUR 28.5 mln) respectively.
In the consortium of banks that provided the financing are listed lenders BNP Paribas BP, Santander BP, PKO BP, mBank and Poland's state development bank BGK.
Empik Group operates in the retail market in Poland, offering products from more than 20 categories, in an omni-channel model combining a network of 370 stationary stores with the offer available on Empik. com, including the marketplace and through a mobile application.
