Poland-Sweden power connection to be protected by safety zone from July 24
A safety zone has been established near the Poland-Sweden power connection, the SwePol Link submarine cable, to better protect infrastructure that is key to energy security, Poland's grid operator PSE said in a press statement.
As PSE reported, the zone is 250 metres wide on both sides of the cable axis and prohibits trawling, fishing, water sports, diving, anchoring and underwater work other than that commissioned by PSE.
The order establishing the zone was issued on July 8 by the Director of the Maritime Office in Gdynia.
The ban will apply from July 24, 2025.
The SwePol Link connection has a capacity of 600 MW and connects the Slupsk and Stärno stations near Karlshamm on the southern coast of Sweden. It is a high-voltage direct current (HVDC) cable with a total length of over 250 kilometres. The line has been in operation since 2000 and is operated by the Polish and Swedish grid operators, PSE and Svenska Kraftnät.
