Poland's largest retail chain Biedronka, owned by Portuguese Jeronimo Martins, has equipped over 2,000 stores in Poland with photovoltaic installations, according to a press release. In June 2025, the chain achieved a record result in terms of renewable energy production at its facilities across the country of 17,500 MWh.
Biedronka reported that as part of its long-term sustainable development strategy, the chaiin is also implementing photovoltaic solutions in its distribution centres. Currently, solar panels are in operation in 8 out of 17 facilities, and the strategic partner responsible for their installation is EDP Group.
It was pointed out that thanks to investments in green energy, in the first half of 2025, the chain avoided emitting 85 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere.
"Thanks to investments in photovoltaic installations, Biedronka can power its stores with clean energy immediately. Approximately 16% of the total energy consumption in stores equipped with PV installations today comes from the sun," Biedronka said in the press release.
