Equinor and Polenergia with final environmental decision for Baltyk 1 OWF project

The decision on the environmental conditions for the offshore wind farm Baltyk 1 project being developed jointly by listed renewables group Polenergia and Norwegian power utility Equinor, issued by the Regional Director of Environmental Protection (RDOS) in Gdansk, has become final, the companies said in a press release.

Baltyk 1 is being geared up for an offshore auction in 2025.

"This is an extremely important moment for the Baltyk 1 project, which brings us closer to participating in the auction of the second phase of offshore development," said Polenergia's CEO Adam Purwin, quoted in the press release.

"Holding the auction this year will allow us to maintain implementation continuity between the first and second phases of offshore wind power development, without generating unnecessary interruptions, which, in turn, will allow us to maximise the energy potential of the Polish sea," he added.

CEO Purwin pointed out that another important aspect of holding the auction is that it will enable smooth integration of Polish companies into the farm construction process and increase local content.

"As the largest offshore wind farm currently under development in Poland, Baltyk 1 plays a huge role in the realisation of this goal," he stressed.

The CEO of Equinor's branch in Poland Michal Jerzy Kolodziejczyk said that Baltyk 1 has already obtained a permit for laying and maintaining cables in the offshore part, as well as a grid connection agreement with the transmission system operator.

As reported, supply chain potential analysis has been launched for companies interested in cooperating on the Baltyk 1 wind power farm project.

The first meetings with contractors will take place soon.

The Baltyk 1 wind farm, with a capacity of up to 1,560 MW, will be located 81 kilometres from the coastline.

Polenergia and Equinor are jointly developing three wind farm projects - Baltyk 1, 2 and 3, which will have a combined capacity of up to 3,000 MW. The first energy from the two more advanced projects, Baltyk 2 and Baltyk 3, is expected to flow in 2027.
