JSW SAJSW coal expects to lose around 800k tonnes of production in ‘25 after methane fire in mine
Listed coking coal group JSW has adopted a resolution on force majeure at the company in connection with the events at the Knurow-Szczyglowice mine and is currently projecting a loss of production volume in 2025 of approximately 800,000 tonnes, the company said in a market filing.
"The decision in question is related to the events that occurred on January 22, 2025, at the Knurow-Szczyglowice mine, Ruch Szczyglowice, where a methane ignition occurred, as a result of which it was necessary to dam the endangered area," JSW said in the market filing.
Last Wednesday, a methane fire occurred at the Knurow-Szczyglowice mine owned by JSW. Sixteen miners were injured, 14 of whom were taken to hospitals. Three persons have died from burns.
