PEJ gathers initial pledges of PLN 95 bln in financial commitment to build Poland's first nuclear power plant
100-percent state-owned SPV Polskie Elektrownie Jadrowe (PEJ) has gathered preliminary declarations of financial commitment for the construction of Poland's first nuclear power plant to the tune of PLN 95 billion (EUR 22.7 bln), the government's plenipotentiary for strategic energy infrastructure Wojciech Wrochna wrote in response to a parliamentary interpellation.
"On the basis of letters of intent received to date from, among others, US, Canadian and French institutions, PEJ has gathered initial pledges of financial commitment totalling the equivalent of more than PLN 95 billion," Wrochna wrote.
"In addition, since December 2024, PEJ's efforts to raise financing have been supported by a specialised advisor," he added.
Poland's first nuclear power plant is to have three reactors built with AP1000 technology from the US company Westinghouse with a total capacity of 3.75 GW. In its notification application to the European Commission, the government estimated the cost of the investment at PLN 192 billion (EUR 45.9 bln).
The first electricity from a nuclear reactor in Poland is expected to enter the system in 2036.
