Poland expected to spend PLN 100 bln on digitisation by 2030, says digital affairs minister

Poland's Ministry of Digital Affairs forecasts that by 2030, the government will have allocated more than PLN 100 billion (EUR 23 bln) for the broadly understood digitisation of the country, the Deputy Prime Minister and digital affairs minister Krzysztof Gawkowski told a conference on Poland's Digitisation Strategy by 2035. He added that the strategy envisages work on launching a national telecommunications satellite.

"Digitisation has to cost money in the state. If anyone imagines that digitisation happens on its own, this is not the case and never has been. We forecast that we will spend a total of more than PLN 100 billion on digitisation by 2030," Deputy Prime Minister Gawkowski said.

"We also know how important satellite connectivity is (...) That is why we will work on launching a Polish communications satellite. Without it, the security of the state - especially in times of war - is impossible," he pointed out.

The goals included in the Poland's Digitisation Strategy by 2035 assume that 1.5 million ICT specialists will be present in the domestic market by that time, the digital affairs ministry stated in the strategy. The document also assumes that by 2035 at least 85 percent of citizens will have basic digital competences.

Moreover, the goal by 2035 is 100 percent of IT projects with public use to be implemented in accordance with uniform standards and architectural recommendations of the State Information Architecture. Additionally, the strategy assumes that all entities carrying out public tasks will work on an electronic document management system and that 100 percent of cases conducted by these entities will be handled electronically.

The strategy also assumes that by 2035, 20 million Poles will have a digital identity wallet and that all key e-services will be available through the mObywatel (mCitizen) application.

As the digital affairs ministry assumes, by that time 100 disease entities will be diagnosed using AI in an assistive manner.

By 2035, all government entities will make e-payments available, and, in addition, the strategy assumes that 50 percent of companies will be using AI tools by then.

5 percent of GDP is to be spent on digitisation from 2035.
