Poland's anti-trust watchdog accuses purchasing platform Temu of violating consumer rights
Poland's antitrust and consumer protection regulator UOKiK has made allegations of violations of consumer rights by the shopping platform Temu, UOKiK said in a press release.
Temu is one of the largest shopping platforms with Chinese capital. Dublin-based Irish company Whaleco Technology Limited is responsible for sales conducted in Poland, and it was the company that UOKiK charged with violating consumer rights after it checked the way information important to shoppers was presented on the Temu website and app.
"If we are shopping online, we need to be informed even before we enter into a contract about what rights we will have. We need to be clear who we are buying from - a trader or an individual - and what the division of responsibilities is between the seller and the platform we are using to order," UOKiK wrote in the statement.
"In the opinion of the UOKiK's head, when purchasing through Temu's website or mobile app, consumers may not receive clear and explicit information on this subject," it added.
If the allegations are confirmed, Whaleco Technology Limited faces a penalty of up to 10 percent of turnover for each contested practice.
