PGE SAPoland's potential second nuclear power plant location's analyses foster optimism, says PGE CEO
The first results of geological and environmental analyses indicate that the site in Belchatow may meet the stringent criteria required for a nuclear power investment, the CEO of listed power utility PGE Dariusz Marzec has announced.
"Work on assessing Belchatow as a potential location for a nuclear power plant is progressing. Renowned institutions - the AGH University of Science and Technology in Cracow, the Central Mining Institute - National Research Institute (Katowice), the Polish Geological Institute - PIB (Warsaw) and Poltegor-Instytut - Institute of Underground Mining (Wroclaw) - have provided the PGE Group with the first results of geological and environmental analyses," PGE's CEO wrote on X.
"The preliminary results are reason for optimism - they indicate that the site can meet the stringent criteria required for nuclear power investments," he added.
According to CEO Marzec, this paves the way for the next steps: a comprehensive programme of environmental and location studies, in line with the requirements of national and international law.
In its recently published strategy until 2035 in the area of nuclear power, PGE envisages expenditures of several hundred million zlotys exclusively for conducting the necessary research and analyses in three potential locations - Belchatow, Turow and possibly Konin.
