President opposes tax hikes on ordinary Poles, awaits details on bank CIT increase

Poland's President Karol Nawrocki opposes raising taxes on ordinary Polish citizens and is awaiting detailed proposals regarding the planned increase of the CIT tax rate for banks, head of the President's office Pawel Szefernaker told journalists. His office emphasizes that decisions will depend on the specifics of the upcoming legislation.


When asked if the president will veto the planned CIT tax increase for banks or propose alternative solutions, Szefernaker responded that the president will comment once detailed proposals are presented.

"The president will comment on specific solutions as soon as they are presented to him. The president repeatedly stated that he is against raising taxes for ordinary Poles, everything depends on the details," Szeferneker said.

On Monday, head of presidential office Zbigniew Bogucki told a briefing that Poland's President Karol Nawrocki is opposed to raising taxes or levies.

The Ministry of Finance proposes to increase excise duty rates on alcoholic beverages by 15 percent from January 1, 2026, compared to 2025 rates, and from 2027, excise duty rates are to increase by 10 percent. The ministry also wants to increase the sugar tax rate.

On Thursday, the Ministry of Finance proposed an update of excise duty rates on all alcoholic beverages.
