WSE operator GPW expects higher cost growth in H2 2025 than in Q2

Warsaw Stock Exchange operator GPW expects higher year-on-year cost growth in the second half of the year than in the second quarter, partly due to the intensification of work on the implementation of the GPW WATS platform, representatives of the Warsaw Stock Exchange told a press conference. Work on the implementation of WATS is proceeding according to schedule.

"As far as operating costs are concerned, we have announced that this will be a special year, when costs will increase more than the 4-6 percent year on year range assumed in the three-year strategy. In the second quarter, the increase was 8 percent," GPW's CEO Tomasz Bardzilowski told the press conference.

He added that CAPEX in the second half of 2025 may be at a similar or higher level than in the first half of this year.

In the first half of 2025, capital expenditure increased by 53.2 percent year on year to PLN 40.4 million (EUR 9.5 mln).

"We expect that due to several factors, primarily the intensification of work on the implementation of WATS trading system implementation, the implementation of a new financial and accounting system, and higher spending on market promotion, this growth in the second half of the year will be higher than the growth recorded in the second quarter," said Bardzilowski.

He pointed out that most of the costs associated with the development and implementation of WATS trading system implementation are capitalised.

Warsaw Stock Exchange operator's CEO Bardzilowski announced that work on the implementation of the WATS platform is proceeding according to schedule.

"At this point, various tests are underway, both on the part of the WSE and the Exchange Members. General trials will begin soon, with the first one taking place on August 30. By the end of September, the Exchange Members will confirm their readiness to implement the system on November 10," said the WSE CEO.

"These talks took place some time ago and all scenarios are covered," he said when asked whether the company is in talks with the supplier of the current system about extending the licence in case of a delay in the implementation of WATS.
