EC approves prolongation of Poland's recovery programme
The European Commission has approved the postponement of the settlement of investments from Poland's National Recovery Programme (KPO) to the end of 2026, the Polish funds and regional policy minister has said.
"Friday, June 13, and good news. There is an approval of the KPO prolongation to the end of 2026," Minister Katarzyna Pelczynska-Nalecz wrote on the X platform on Friday.
"This seemed impossible but we achieved success. This is a result of our several-months-long negotiations," she said, adding that the EC approval would make it possible to complete and finance from KPO funds "many investments which are important for Poland."
The original deadline for spending the KPO funds was August 31, 2026.
On May 27, Pelczynska-Nalecz said that the EC issued an initial approval allowing the prolongation of the settlement of KPO-funded investments to November 2026.
The KPO is intended to strengthen the Polish economy. Funds from the programme are to help Poland achieve its previously set goals faster, implement new investments, accelerate economic growth, and increase employment. Under the programme, Poland is set to receive a total of EUR 59.8 billion, including EUR 25.27 billion in non-repayable grants and EUR 34.54 billion in preferential loans. (PAP)
