Poland's electricity prices among fastest-rising in EU - Eurostat
Poland’s electricity prices increased at one of the fastest rates in the European Union during the first half of 2025, the EU stats office Eurostat reported.
In the first half of 2025, the EU's average household electricity price remained largely stable at EUR 28.72 per 100 kWh, after falling 0.5 percent from EUR 28.87 in the second half of 2024, Eurostat said in a report on Wednesday.
In contrast, electricity prices in Poland rose sharply compared with the prior year period. With a 20 percent year-on-year increase, Poland ranked third among EU member states, behind Luxembourg (31.3 percent) and Ireland (25.9 percent).
When adjusted for purchasing power standards (PPS), prices in Poland were also among the highest in the EU.
Electricity prices in PPS terms were highest in the Czech Republic (EUR 39.16 per 100 kWh), followed by Poland (EUR 34.96) and Italy (EUR 34.40).
The Polish government first introduced a freeze on household electricity prices in 2023 and has since extended the measure several times, most recently until December 31, 2025.
However, energy minister Milosz Motyka told Polish public Radio One on Wednesday that the government was not considering an extension of the support into 2026.
The government's current electricity price cap for households is set at PLN 500 (EUR 118) net per MWh.
