Poland's second AI factory to be built in Cracow, project co-financed by Poland and EU
Poland's second artificial intelligence factory will be built in Cracow, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education (MNiSW) announced on its website. The project worth EUR 70 million is co-financed in equal parts by Poland and the European Union.
As reported, the Gaia AI Factory project is co-financed by Poland and the European Union under the European High Performance Computing Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC JU) programme. Poland's contribution is co-financed by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education (MNiSW) and the Ministry of Digital Affairs (MC).
The AI factory will be built by a consortium led by the Cyfronet AGH Academic Computer Centre in Cracow.
"Poland is becoming one of the key centres for the development of trusted artificial intelligence in Europe. Gaia AI Factory is not only an investment in infrastructure, but also a boost for the entire ecosystem of science, administration and innovation," said Poland's Deputy Prime Minister, minister of digital affairs Krzysztof Gawkowski, quoted in the press statement.
"Thanks to cooperation with academic and industrial partners, we are creating a space where new technologies will be developed in a safe, transparent manner and in line with European values. This is an important step towards building Poland's digital sovereignty and strengthening our position in the European knowledge-based economy," he added.
Deputy science and education minister Maria Mrowczynska announced that the creation of the Gaia AI Factory opens up new opportunities for transferring scientific research results to business, which is one of the priorities of MNiSW.
