ArcelorMittal steel pursues PLN 500 mln investment programme in Poland
ArcelorMittal Poland, the largest steel manufacturer in the country, is carrying out an investment programme worth nearly PLN 500 million (EUR 118.1 mln) in Poland, the company announced in a press release.
As reported, projects aimed at reducing environmental impact and increasing safety at the Dabrowa Gornicza branch in the Silesian region are worth nearly PLN 100 million (EUR 23.6 mln).
"The investments in our Dabrowa steelworks are only part of the investment package currently being implemented by us, worth nearly PLN 500 million," said ArcelorMittal Poland's CEO Wojciech Koszuta, quoted in the press release.
"In Zdzieszowice, we are modernising the combined heat and power plant, in Swietochlowice we are starting the construction of a photovoltaic farm, and in Cracow, where hydrogen furnaces are already in operation, we will soon launch the production of a new zinc coating. These activities are the best proof that we see our future in Poland. This is where we want to produce steel, contributing to the growth of the Polish economy," he added.
ArcelorMittal Poland belongs to one of the world's largest steel manufacturer, Luxembourg-based concern ArcelorMittal. The company, including its subsidiaries, employs a total of over 9,000 people.
AMP accounts for approximately 50 percent of the Polish steel industry's production capacity and comprises five steelworks, including those in Cracow, Dabrowa Gornicza, Sosnowiec, Swietochlowice and Chorzow. The group also owns the coking plant in Zdzieszowice.
According to reports, the company has invested over PLN 11 billion (EUR 2.6 bln) in Poland to date.
