Orlen Wind 3 finalises purchase of two PV farms and one wind farm with EDP Renewables Polska

The renewable unit of listed energy concern Orlen, Orlen Wind 3, has finalised with EDP Renewables Polska the purchase of two photovoltaic farms in the Lubusz and Wielkopolskie regions and a wind farm in the Lodz region, the company said in a press release. The acquired assets will increase the corporation's renewable generation capacity by a total of more than 300 MW.

As reported, thanks to the transaction, Orlen Group has increased its capacity in renewable energy by nearly one-third. The company already has around 580 MW of installed capacity in onshore wind farms and over 350 MW of installed capacity in photovoltaics.

The farms acquired from EDP Renewables Poland will be able to produce up to 400 GWh of energy annually, needed to power nearly 182,000 households.

The first photovoltaic farm, with a capacity of 40 MWp, located in the village of Chotkow in Lubusz region, was commissioned in January this year. The second, in the municipality of Przykona in Greater Poland region, has a capacity of 200 MWp and is in the process of being expanded by an additional 40 MWp. Completion is planned for the end of this year.

It was pointed out that as part of the transaction, the Orlen group also acquired the 'Warta' onshore wind farm, established last May in the Lodz region. The 26 MW investment is located in an area characterised by high wind intensity, which guarantees a high level of utilisation of the installed capacity.

By the end of the decade, Orlen wants to reach 9 GW of installed capacity in renewable energy sources. In addition to onshore wind and photovoltaic farms, the company is also developing offshore wind power. As part of the latest preparations for installation work, key components of the Baltic Power investment are being manufactured offshore. The project, which is being carried out jointly with Canada's Northland Power, will integrate a capacity of approximately 1.2 GW into the national energy system in 2026.
