Poland's gas infrastructure operator says half of LNG from FSRU 2 is likely to be exported

The reported demand for LNG regasification services in 2031-2032 exceeded the planned capacity of the second floating LNG terminal in Gdansk (FSRU) unit, which would be capable of regasifying 4.5 billion cubic meters of fuel per year, by almost four times, according to Poland's gas infrastructure operator Gaz-System. Half of the regasified LNG would be exported to Ukraine, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and Lithuania.

"Fourteen domestic and foreign companies took part in the study. The reported demand for 2031-2032 exceeded the planned capacity of the second FSRU (Floating Storage Regasification Unit), which would be capable of regasifying 4.5 billion cubic meters of gas fuel per year, by almost four times," Gaz-System announced after completing the LNG demand survey.

It added that almost half of the regasified LNG would be exported to Ukraine, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and Lithuania.

The export volume is estimated between 6.9 and 8.9 billion m³, potentially dropping to about 2.6 billion m³ per year in coming decades.

The operator said market participants' declarations support moving forward with a binding Open Season procedure for the second FSRU Terminal.

"Gaz-System is currently consulting with companies that have expressed preliminary interest and is working on preparing an optimal service provision model that will take market suggestions into account," the operator reported.

The Open Season FSRU 2 procedure aims to confirm demand through binding orders for regasification services, launching in early 2026.

The first FSRU terminal in Gdansk is expected to be completed by 2027-2028, with a capacity of at least 6.1 billion cubic meters per year. Gaz-System, the gas transmission operator, leads the FSRU project including this planned expansion.
