Budimex SABudimex builder's consortium starts boring longest railway tunnel in Poland
The consortium of listed builder Budimex has started boring the longest railway tunnel in Poland; the company is planning further major contracts in the area of tunnel construction, Budimex representatives told a press conference.
The naming of two TBMs (Tunnel Boring Machines) took place between Limanowa and Kleczany in the southern part of Poland, which thus begin the tunnelling of the country's longest railway tunnel.
"This is a historic moment, today we are starting to bore the longest railway tunnel in Poland," Budimex's CEO Artur Popko said at the press conference.
"For the past year, we have been working on section D Limanowa - siding Kleczany on the railway line no. 104 which has become one of the most significant railway projects of recent years. This project marks a new direction in the development of the Polish railway infrastructure (...)," said the member of Budimex's management board and the head of the group's railway construction segment Maciej Olek, quoted in the press release.
"We are looking to the future with full confidence, planning the independent execution of further large contracts, which will be a natural step in the development of our company," he added.
Budimex pointed out that the restoration of a high-speed rail link between Cracow and Nowy Sacz, allowing travel in less than one hour, will contribute to increasing the industrial and economic attractiveness of the region. As it was stressed in the press release, the modernisation of the railway line no. 104 is crucial for improving connections in the Lesser Poland region.
