Energa SAEnerga-Operator launches commercial connections to medium-voltage grid
Energa-Operator, the unit of Poland's largest energy concern Orlen's subsidiary Energa, has launched commercial connections to the medium-voltage grid, the company announced in a press release. The aim of the implemented solution is to create conditions for the emergence of new renewable energy projects, which would not be possible without it.
Renewable energy sources with a total capacity exceeding 10 GW are connected to the Energa-Operator network.
As indicated, the commercial service for medium-voltage networks is a response to the needs of investors in such installations.
"We are a distribution system operator, but if we are to meet the challenges and expectations of the market, we must start thinking like a sales company. Wherever possible, we want to provide our customers with a choice of solutions that will enable them to implement their plans and develop their businesses," said Energa Operator's CEO Robert Swierzynski, quoted in the press release.
According to the law, commercial connections are used when the investments necessary for their implementation have not been included in the network development plan agreed with Poland's energy market regulator URE, and it is not possible to finance them from the tariff charges paid by all energy consumers. In other words, when a negative decision on the connection conditions has been issued for economic reasons.
The new solution provides for connection in cases where the investor of a renewable energy or energy storage project is willing to bear the costs associated with expanding the grid to the extent necessary for its implementation.
The rules for commercial connections to the high-voltage grid, introduced by Energa-Operator just six months ago, have enabled agreements to be concluded with RES producers for a total capacity of over 220 MW. In addition, provisions of agreements for sources with a capacity of over 250 MW are being negotiated.
