ERB Rail joint venture including Budimex launches construction of Rail Baltica in Latvia

Listed builder Budimex, as part of the ERB Rail joint venture (Eiffage Génie Civil, Budimex SA, Rizzani de Eccher), has started the construction of Rail Baltica project in Latvia, Budimex announced in a press release. The work is to be completed in 2032.


The contract, which includes the construction of 230 kilometres of modern high-speed railway line in Latvia, is worth EUR 3.7 billion. The scope of work includes 175 engineering structures and 11 environmental crossings.

The project is funded 85 percent by the Connecting Europe Facility CEF and 15 percent by the Republic of Latvia.

The project, implemented as part of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T), aims to integrate the Baltic region with Europe. Once completed, the line will enable high-speed passenger transport at 249 kilometres per hour and freight transport at 120 km/h on the route connecting Tallinn, Riga, Vilnius and Warsaw.
