Orlen SAOrlen energy's VC fund invests in Norwegian manufacturer of PEM electrolysers
Poland's largest energy concern Orlen's venture capital fund, Orlen VC, has invested in Norwegian company Hystar, a manufacturer of highly efficient PEM electrolysers for the mass production of zero-emission hydrogen, Orlen said in a press release.
Hystar began commercialising its products in 2022.
As indicated, the Norwegian company has secured EUR 26 million in funding from the European Innovation Fund in 2024.
"These funds will be used to prepare the automation of the production line. Another source of funding is funds raised from venture capital funds, including Orlen VC," Orlen said in the press release.
As Orlen reported, in the current round, Hystar has received a total of more than EUR 32 million, which is expected to provide funds for the own contribution to the EU grant obtained and the company's operations until 2027.
Hystar AS is Orlen VC's thirteenth investment. According to its assumptions, Orlen VC plans to make about five investments a year, focusing on the most promising companies with innovative and ready-to-commercialise technologies that will support the goals currently adopted in the Orlen 2035 strategy.
