Poland's long-distance railway carrier PKP Intercity and listed power utility PGE's rail unit PGE Energetyka Kolejowa have signed an agreement for the supply of electricity to power trains, PKP Intercity announced in a press release. The agreement was concluded for the years 2026-2027 with an option for 2028.
As indicated, under the contract, PGE Energetyka Kolejowa will supply a total of 2 TWh of electricity, of which 602 GWh will come from renewable sources.
"The agreement between PGE Energetyka Kolejowa and PKP Intercity covers the supply of electricity together with distribution services for railway purposes, i.e. to power electric locomotives and multiple units," the statement said.
PKP Intercity aims to have 50 percent of its total energy consumption come from renewable sources by 2030.
