PGE SAPGE power to build second gas-fired power plant in Rybnik
Listed power utility PGE has launched a procurement procedure for the design and construction, on a turnkey basis, of a peak gas-fired power plant with a capacity of approximately 600 MW in Rybnik, the Silesian region, the group announced in a press release. The investment is scheduled for completion in 2029.
In line with the new strategy, PGE plans to build 10 GW of capacity in gas-fired power plants over the next 10 years, of which 6 GW will be OCGT technology, i.e. open cycle gas turbine.
The peak unit with a capacity of approximately 600 MW in Rybnik will be used to stabilise the operation of the the national power system (KSE), in which energy output from renewable sources is playing an increasingly important role.
"This is already the second gas investment in Rybnik – the first, consisting of an 882 MW gas-steam unit, will be launched at the turn of 2026 and 2027," said PGE's CEO Dariusz Marzec, quoted in the press release.
