Tauron PE SAPoland not in need of extending price freeze as energy prices are falling, says Tauron's dep. CEO
Energy prices are falling, an extension of the price freeze for households does not seem necessary, the representatives of listed power utility Tauron assessed at a conference on Monday.
"The frozen price is valid until the end of September 2025 and is PLN 500 per MWh. As part of the legislative changes, companies will be required to submit tariff change applications in April, although we are working to move this opportunity to submit tariffs to July," said Tauron's deputy CEO for trading Piotr Golebiowski.
"We argue that the introduction of the new tariff will be most effective from October and there will be time to optimally set the costs of the tariff and for the price to be as low as possible," he added.
In the view of energy prices decreasing, extending the price freeze does not seem necessary, according to Tauron's deputy CEO.
"We anticipate that the tariff price will be lower than the current tariff. Electricity prices are falling. (...) This year we have effectively reduced the bill for SME customers by about 42 percent. The price is coming down and will continue to come down. It will also fall for households," he assessed.
"The level of the maximum price does not very much stick out above the current market price level; hence, we believe that extending the freeze is not necessary. I believe we could manage without a maximum price in the fourth quarter of 2025," Golebiowski added.
He reported that the dynamic tariffs offered by the company, i.e. reflecting fluctuations in energy prices in the markets, have so far been used by less than 1,000 customers. The offer has allowed them to reduce the cost of energy by more than 20 percent.
