Poland’s antitrust regulator charges Jeronimo Martins over Biedronka promotional prices

Poland's antitrust and consumer protection regulator UOKiK has brought charges against Portuguese Jeronimo Martins Group, owner of Poland's largest retail chain Biedronka concerning promotional prices in the Biedronka chain, according to a press release issued by the office. The company faces a fine of up to 10 percent of its turnover.


As reported, charges were also brought against three managers – members of the management board, who face a fine of up to PLN 2 million (EUR 470,800).

UOKiK acted after consumer reports of Biedronka promo irregularities, including unclear multiple-item pricing and illegible info on lowest prices before discounts. The inspections confirmed these issues.

The UOKiK's head has accused Jeronimo Martins Polska of violating the collective interests of consumers.

The head of the office accused the company of misleading consumers with incorrect discount calculations and criticized how the lowest prior 30-day price was presented.

For each of the three allegations, the company may be fined up to 10 percent of its turnover.
