Poland's Ministry of Finance wants a fixed funeral allowance of PLN 7,000 (EUR 1,660) without the optional possibility to increase the amount by decree of the Council of Ministers, the ministry stated in its comments to the bill by the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy (MRPiPS).
"(...) in the opinion of the Ministry of Finance, the amount of funeral allowance should be fixed at the proposed fixed amount, i.e. PLN 7,000," the ministry commented.
The latest bill envisages an increase in the amount of funeral allowance from January 1, 2026, to PLN 7,000 (EUR 1,6660) from PLN 4,000 (EUR 948.40) with the possibility of an annual review of the amount by the Institute of Labour and Social Affairs, following a possible decision by the Council of Ministers.
The Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy (MRPiPS) estimates the cost of the benefit increase to the public finance sector at PLN 1.5-1.6 billion (EUR 355.65-379.36 mln) per year.
