PSP operator counts on acquisitions in CEE region, BLIK transactions number to exceed 3 bln in 2025
Polski Standard Platnosci PSP, the operator of the BLIK mobile payment system, counts on further expansion in the Central and Eastern European region, and does not rule out that an acquisition will take place as early as 2025. This year the number of BLIK transactions will clearly exceed 3 billion, and the BLIK Place Pozniej (Pay Later) service will be available in more banks, the CEO of PSP Dariusz Mazurkiewicz told the conference.
"Expansion abroad is a natural step for us - launching in Slovakia and getting regulatory approval in Romania is not only the start of a new phase," Mazurkiewicz said.
"We do not have any significant capital needs, including those related to potential acquisition tranches. We are looking at the market in the region all the time, and I am confident that we will be active in this area this year (...) we are working towards acquisitions in the region this year," he added.
In 2024, PSP has been transformed into a public limited company, but, as the CEO stressed, this is not linked to IPO plans.
In Poland, the BLIK Place Pozniej (Pay Later) service is currently available in two banks - VeloBank and Bank Millennium.
"We want three more major banks in Poland to make this service available this year," CEO Mazurkiewicz said.
2024 was another record-breaking year for Blik, with more than 2.4 billion transactions (up by 37 percent year on year), reaching PLN 347.3 billion (EUR 83.53 bln), (up 43 percent year on year).
The CEO reported that the number of Blik transactions in 2025 will be clearly above 3 billion.
In February, Blik celebrated its tenth anniversary - during the decade, users made a total of 7 billion transactions, with the total value approaching PLN 1 trillion (EUR 240.5 bln).
In 2024 alone, Blik users have completed more than half of all transactions from the last nine years combined.
Blik is a Polish mobile payment system, launched in February 2015. It was built on the partnership of six of Poland's largest banks and is today operated by PSP. Mastercard also became a shareholder of PSP in 2020.
