Digital tax is in Europe and should be in Poland, says Dep. PM
Digital tax already exists in Europe and should be introduced in Poland; there is great determination to do so, Deputy Prime Minister Krzysztof Gawkowski told journalists during an Economic Forum in Karpacz. In his opinion, the intention to introduce the tax should not cause tensions in relations with the US; he announced consultations with, among others, American chambers of commerce.
"Digital tax already exists in Europe and should be in Poland. There is great determination because the goal is important - new money in the budget for innovation, start-ups and research," Gawkowski told journalists on the sidelines of the Economic Forum in Karpacz.
When asked whether there would be diplomatic friction in talks with the Americans over the tax, he said that Poland is now a reliable partner for the US and that he sees no reason not to introduce the tax.
"Poland is a reliable partner for the US today because it buys a lot of equipment and spends billions of dollars," he added, noting that no American big tech company will suffer if it pays fair taxes.
"Work on the bill is currently underway, there is no bill yet – there are consultations, including with chambers of commerce in the US and other countries, it is a fully open process," he added.
He reiterated that the draft bill is to be ready by the end of the year, and tax revenues would be included in the budget from 2027 if the bill came into force.
