Poland adopts draft of onshore wind farm distance law, easing rules for sector
Poland's government has, by way of circulation, adopted the draft of the Ministry of Climate and Environment (MKiS) liberalising the distance requirements for investments in onshore wind farms, Prime Minister's office KPRM reported on its website. The estimated increase in energy from wind farms by 2030 is around 6 gigawatts.
"One of the cheapest RES is wind energy. Therefore, the restrictive rule of locating the minimum distance of wind power plants from residential buildings has been relaxed - from the current 700 metres to 500 metres," KPRM said in the statement.
"The new solutions also provide for facilitations when it comes to the modernisation of existing wind power plants (so-called repowering)," it noted.
As pointed out, the solution should increase the installed capacity of new onshore wind projects by up to 60-70 percent and the investments will be an opportunity to increase the growth potential of wind energy by around 6 gigawatts by 2030.
Rules have been set out for the minimum distance of wind turbines from national parks and Natura 2000 sites - in the case of national parks, this will be a minimum distance of 1,500 metres.
New law also implements auction system for biogas plants of over 1 MW capacity.
