Poland to analyse impact of US tariffs on EU prices, says PM
Polish government will deepen its analysis of the possible consequences of US tariffs imposed on imports of steel and aluminium from the EU for the domestic industry, Poland's Prime Minister Donald Tusk said at the opening of Tuesday's cabinet meeting. He specified that it was about the impact of these tariffs on EU prices.
"We will deepen these analyses in the coming hours so that we have a full picture of these possible consequences for Polish industry," Tusk said before the government meeting.
As the Prime Minister pointed out, Poland is not a big exporter of steel or aluminium to the US.
"Poland's aluminium exports to the US are 411 tonnes and 264,000 tonnes to other countries, this gives an idea of the proportions, so we are not panicking, but we are preparing well for the consequences of the tariffs," Tusk stressed.
"These figures are not alarming, to put it mildly, while we also need to examine the impact on prices, for example. We export a lot within the European Union, how this will affect us. I don't need to explain why it is important for me to have urgent and precise information," he reasoned.
Donald Tusk stressed that the response of Poland and the EU should be balanced.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced on Tuesday that the US decision to impose tariffs on European steel and aluminium exports would not go unanswered. She added that firm and proportionate measures would be the response.
