Poland to set protection of agricultural market as priority in talks on EU-Mercosur agreement, says PM
Protecting the agricultural market will be the government's priority in talks on an EU-Mercosur free trade agreement, Prime Minister Donald Tusk told reporters in Sejm.
"Part of this agreement will be subject to national ratifications anyway, that is, without the consent of our parliament, an important part of this agreement would not enter into force anyway, but that is not enough. We will work (...) not only with the French, but also with other countries," Prime Minister said.
"There remains a question mark over Italy's attitude, if we had Italy on our side, we would probably have this blocking minority, but I will look for other ways. We will also discuss this at the Council of the European Union," he added.
Tusk stressed that the issue of the Mercosur agreement is not reducible to zeros and ones.
"There are countries, including Poland, where industrial interests say 'let's sign it because we will sell more to South America', but for us, the priority has become the protection of our agricultural market," the Prime Minister explained.
