Poland's energy minister to present detailed action plan for SMRs by end-summer, says PM

The Polish government may take a policy decision on the development of small and medium modular nuclear reactors this summer, Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced prior to the first government meeting after the reshuffle. Tusk added that he hopes energy minister Milosz Motyka will present a detailed plan on this issue by the end of the summer.

"We have some very important decisions to make fairly quickly, for example regarding energy. I am looking at minister Motyka and I hope that we will make policy decisions regarding these (...) modular nuclear reactors this summer," said Tusk, opening the first meeting of the Council of Ministers after the reshuffle.

He added that the first large-scale nuclear power plant is being built in Poland and work is being completed on the location of a possible second such investment.

"Wind turbines are being installed in the Baltic Sea. We have a wind turbine law, and I hope for a quick, possible correction, because we know that there are still some problems there," the Prime Minister said.

"But the real opportunity are probably (...) these state-of-the-art, modular, medium-sized nuclear reactors. And I hope that, as I said, by the end of the summer you will present a precise action plan on this issue," he added.
