Poland's gg sector deficit to reach 6.9 pct of GDP in 2025, 6.5 pct in 2026

Poland's current forecast deficit for the general government sector in 2025 is 6.9 percent and in 2026 - 6.5 percent, Finance and Economy Minister Andrzej Domanski told a press conference. He added that the increases in the budgetary sphere assumed in the preliminary draft budget for 2026 remain at 3 percent.

"We currently forecast a general government deficit of 6.9 percent in 2025," Domanski said.

He added that as far as budgetary increases are concerned, they will remain at 3 percent.

"This is also a function of our inflation forecast for 2026," he noted.

Poland's finance minister announced that in 2026, the budget deficit will reach PLN 271.7 billion (EUR 63.66 bln).

Domanski announced that the projected budget revenue for 2026 amounts to PLN 647 billion (EUR 151.6 bln), PLN 44 billion (EUR 10.3 bln) more than the forecast for 2025, which was lowered due to lower-than-expected inflation. Expenditures are expected to amount to PLN 918.9 billion (EUR 215.3 bln).

The ratio of public debt to GDP in 2026 is expected to be 53.8 percent, and the ratio of net public debt to GDP is expected to stand at 52.6 percent.

"Both of these figures remain below the prudential threshold specified in the Public Finance Act. If we adjusted these items for the loan portion of the national recovery plan KPO, we would be at 49.5 percent," Poland's finance minister explained.

"As for the projected debt-to-GDP ratio according to the EU definition, it will amount to 66.8 percent at the end of 2026, and after adjusting for the loan portion of the KPO, it will be 63.7 percent," he added.
