Poland's social insurer forecasts insurance fund's deficit at up to PLN 80.1 bln in 2025
Poland's social insurer ZUS forecasts the Polish social insurance fund FUS' deficit in 2025 at up to PLN 80.1 billion (EUR 18.74 bln) in the intermediate variant and PLN 115.3 billion (EUR 27.06 bln) in 2029, ZUS said in its forecast of the FUS result for 2025-29.
"In 2025-2029, the social insurance fund FUS remains stable, but shows a deficit trend. This, in turn, implies the need to continue to feed it with, among other things, a subsidy from the state budget," ZUS said in the press release.
The forecast shows that the annual balance of the FUS has been negative throughout this projection period.
The latest forecast shows that in the intermediate variant, the annual deficit of FUS in 2025 in relation to GDP will be 2.2 percent (in inflation-discounted amounts for 2023, it will amount to PLN 80.1 billion or EUR 18.74 bln), and in 2029, it will grow to 2.8 percent of GDP (in inflation-discounted amounts for 2023, it is to amount to PLN 115.3 billion or EUR 27.06 bln).
In the intermediate variant, the number of people covered by pension and disability insurance increases in 2025, while it decreases over the subsequent forecast years. The number of insured in 2029 compared to 2025 is lower by 236,000 (a decrease of 1.4 percent).
