Poland's digital affairs ministry to earmark PLN 440 mln for digitisation of Polish culture
Poland's Ministry of Digital Affairs will allocate PLN 440 mln (EUR 103 mln) to the digitisation of Polish culture, Deputy Prime Minister and minister of digital affairs Krzysztof Gawkowski told a conference.
"I am extremely proud that (...) I can talk about the large sums of money that will be allocated to the digitisation of the cultural resources of the entire country," Gawkowski said.
"The digitisation of culture is an aspect that allows us to secure collections and make every book, handicraft, engraving and map available to everyone, anywhere in the world. (...) This is a huge project. In many elements - because of projects financed by the European Union, projects financed under digitisation programmes - we, as the Ministry of Digital Affairs, will spend PLN 440 million on the digitisation of Polish culture and its resources," he added.
The minister pointed out that PLN 440 million (EUR 103 mln) will be allocated, among others, to the Polish National Museum, the resources of Poland's public TV channel Telewizja Polska, the Fryderyk Chopin Institute, and the resources of the National Library.
Gawkowski said that the National Library will be the biggest beneficiary of this transformation.
"PLN 100 million will be transferred to the National Library from the PLN 440 million package. (...) 145,000 items will be digitised," he reported.
