Poland and Norway sign agreement on defence cooperation
Poland's Deputy Prime Minister and defence minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz and his Norwegian counterpart Tore Sandvik have signed an agreement on Monday to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the field of defence.
The agreement on strengthening bilateral cooperation in the field of defence will cover, among other things, building deterrence and defence capabilities, strengthening security in the region and coordinating efforts to increase interoperability.
Kosiniak-Kamysz said that the ministers had analysed recent events concerning violations of Polish and European airspace.
"We are currently making specific decisions within the framework of Eastern Century and strengthening anti-drone defence. This is the main task today for NATO countries and European Union countries," he said.
Sandvik, in turn, pointed out that Norway and Poland share common interests in the field of security. According to him, cooperation between the two countries will become increasingly important in the near future.
The Norwegian defence minister also expressed his satisfaction that Poland will soon acquire F-35 aircraft and, in this regard, expressed his desire for close cooperation between the countries on airspace protection and the construction of an anti-drone wall and new anti-drone capabilities.
"We agreed that we should learn a lot from Ukraine in this regard, because they are the best experts when it comes to defence against drones; we will invest in the capabilities of Ukrainian industry to give them anti-drone capabilities, but we will also learn from them to secure our borders," he added.
